Christopher Chung is about to experience the power of Powerball. He claimed a winning Powerball ticket that matched five of six numbers (4-18-23-32-45, only missing the Powerball number 7) in the draw last Wednesday to win an astounding $3,213,436. That is a far cry from the $40 million jackpot that was up for grabs that night, but it is enough to spark exciting changes in his life.
“I can buy a house ... big house!” Chung said shortly after posing for the picture below. But, he says he knows how lucky he is, believing he’s been given the chance of a lifetime. So, he and his family consulted with an accountant before claiming the ticket, who cautioned that with home ownership also come annual property taxes. “I want to be careful,” Chung said. “We want to use the money wisely – to build up for the children’s education or invest.”
Talk about a turnaround. Chung told us he lost his job earlier this year when his former company closed down. He’s since been training, hoping still to become a bus driver. “This is only a little bit,” is how he describes his win. “Not enough [to] retire.” However, Chung says it is enough to give rise to a different attitude. “Not have to worry or have too much stress about bills and rent.”
