Buying SuperLotto Plus tickets in a group pool is a new tradition for residents of Cambria at Riverwalk senior living complex in Riverside. Back in August, Francis Warren decided to increase everyone’s chances by having the group of 45 total players put in $8 a week per person to buy tickets.
Well all of that determination paid off big time a couple of months ago in March! That’s when one of their SuperLotto Plus tickets was randomly chosen as the winner of the $500,000 top prize in the 2nd Chance Grand Opening draw! Everyone will receive $11,111.11 before taxes. Not bad for a roughly $250 per person investment dating back to when the group started playing last summer.
Warren, who is a retired drapery installer, told the California Lottery that most residents in the pool are retired. Some plan to use the money to help with rent and other expenses such as buying new car tires. As for Warren, he plans on taking a cruise.
Warren said he buys the group’s tickets at different stores each week. This time he was on his way back from watching spring training baseball games in Arizona and stopped at a convenience store in Alpine (San Diego County) off of Interstate 8.
Whenever there is a group win, the question comes up…did anyone miss out by not putting their $8 in? “We did have a few players who didn’t have their money in this time,” Warren admitted. Which brings up the old saying: You have to play to win!
