  • Lottery Winner Kicking it in Long Beach

  • Wow, that was fast! Right about the time we were putting the word out about a winning Lottery ticket in Long Beach yesterday morning, the winner was entering our Santa Fe Springs District Office to begin the process of claiming his awesome prize. Do you blame him? Greg Kent just won $210,820 in Monday night’s Fantasy 5 drawing. That’s something he’s been expecting for some time.

The Long Beach resident told us he’s had more luck on Fantasy 5 than any other Lottery game. “I’ve won $350 to $500 more times than I can remember,” Kent said. He scored that money by matching four out of five numbers each time. This time he successfully matched all five numbers in the draw. They were 6, 15, 19, 33 and 27. “I knew I was going to hit it at some point, and this was the day,” Kent said.

He’s had plenty of time to fantasize about winning a lot of money. So what’s he going to do with it? “I am going to pay off my debts and I’m gonna sock a lot of it away,” Kent said. He then added this little number: “I will probably go buy some new shoes.” Huh? Well, Kent, who is 51-years old, works as an IT director for an international clothing company. He’s got an important work-related trip to New York coming up. New York … THE fashion capital of the world! No wonder he wants to step it up. “They’re not gonna be clogs,” Kent said. “I’m wearing some cheap tennis shoes right now. I think I can afford some nice shoes.”

It’s easy to joke about new kicks, but $210,000 can make a huge difference in your life.  “That’s three years of take home pay,” Kent said. “I would have to work three years to get this kind of money.”
