This exhilarating multiplier is seamlessly built into every Mega Millions ticket. When you buy your ticket, the multiplier is automatically included — no extra steps required.


$5 Per Play

Each play will cost $5 beginning April 5 to support the value of the new changes to Mega Millions

This is only the second price adjustment since the launch of Mega Millions in 2002 and the first since the current game matrix was adopted in 2017.

Get ready for the launch of the bigger, better, new Mega Millions!

  • Sales of the current Mega Millions game will end at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, April 4 
  • Sales of the new Mega Millions game will start at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5
  • First draw for the new Mega Millions game will be at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8 
  • The jackpot will continue to roll and grow when the new game starts if there is no top prize winner during the April 4 drawing. If the top prize is hit on April 4, the jackpot will typically reset to the new starting amount of $50 million
  • Existing Mega Millions playslips will no longer work. You must use the new Mega Millions playslip if you are selecting your own numbers and not using Quick Pick®. The new Mega Millions playslip will be available at your local California Lottery retailer starting April 5
  • Purchase of the full ten Advance Plays for Mega Millions will resume on April 5
  • All vending machines will be updated to offer the new Mega Millions game starting April 5
  • The gameplay for Mega Millions will remain the same. For each play, select five numbers and one Mega number by using a play slip to choose your own numbers or buy a Quick Pick®, and a random number generator will choose the numbers for you
  • Reminder: all Mega Millions sales are final. Your ticket is your receipt. Once it prints, the play cannot be canceled or refunded
